How to get more players on your Roblox game
Updated 4 November 2026 · By ClipClip
The short answer
Most players find games on Roblox's Home page, and Home recommends the games its players stay in. So: give your game a custom thumbnail that matches it, make the first three minutes hold people, then bring your first players from outside (ads, short clips, creators) so the game gets played and judged sooner.
Where Roblox players come from
Over 90% of traffic on Roblox begins on Home, Roblox said in March 2025. The row that decides which games grow is Recommended For You.
Home judges a game only on the players it sent itself. Players who arrive from ads, search, friends, TikTok or YouTube don't count toward its ranking, even when they come back later through Home. Outside players still matter: they get your game played, talked about and tested sooner. They just don't rank it for you.
What Home looks at
Since 15 June 2026, Recommended For You ranks games on eight signals, each measured only on the players Home sent:
| Most important | What it measures |
|---|---|
| Play-through rate | How often people who see your tile play |
| First-play bounce | Players who leave their first visit within 60 seconds, or within 61 to 180 seconds (counts against you) |
| Play days per player | How many days people play, over day 1, days 2 to 7 and days 8 to 28 |
| Playtime per player | Time played, counted up to 60 minutes per player per day |
| Important | What it measures |
|---|---|
| Days with friends | Days people come back to play with friends |
| Qualified sessions | Visits long enough to count |
| Spend days | Days players spend Robux in your game |
| Robux per player | Robux spent per player |
These are averages per player, not totals, so a small game with loyal players isn't behind a big one. Roblox publishes no weights, and no single signal decides.
Step 1: be eligible for Home
- A custom thumbnail. Since 19 October 2026, a game with only a default thumbnail gets no Home recommendations (players who played it still see it in Continue). It's 16:9, ideally 1920×1080: every size is in our thumbnail size guide.
- A title, thumbnail and description that match the game. Roblox recommends mismatched games less, and shows them less in search.
- An original game. Games that closely resemble an existing one rank lower.
- No Robux giveaways in the title. Roblox doesn't push games whose name or description promises money.
Then check who can play it. A game Roblox hasn't evaluated yet is open only to age-checked players aged 16 and over. To open it to younger players (Roblox Kids and Select), you verify your age and ID, turn on 2-step verification, pay a refundable fee per game (or keep a Roblox Plus subscription at least two months old), and the game needs plays from 250 highly engaged players within 60 days (500 until 19 August 2026). Roblox's Ads Manager has an Engagement goal built to reach those players.
Step 2: hold people for the first three minutes
First-play bounce counts players who leave within 60 seconds, and again within three minutes. That's where most small games lose Home.
- Get to the fun in seconds: the first action, a goal on screen, no long walk or wall of text.
- Watch five real players try it (friends, a Discord) without helping them. Where they stop is what to fix; your analytics show what happens, not why.
- Give a reason to come back tomorrow: play days are counted over 28 days.
Step 3: bring your first players from outside
- Roblox ads. Roblox's benchmark was $0.0073 a play in November 2025: the cheapest way to get real players into your first minutes. Ad players don't count toward Home's ranking. What they cost and when they pay back: how much Roblox ads cost.
- Short clips on TikTok, Reels and Shorts. What travels is moments, not trailers: a funny loss, a rare find, a jump-scare, a steal. Show and say your game's exact name, since viewers search for it. A clip at a few hundred views brings next to no one; it takes many posts for one to reach the views that do.
- Creators. Smaller Roblox YouTubers and TikTokers in your genre. In the breakout games of 2024 to 2026, most of the push from outside came from other people: memes, fans' clips, YouTubers.
- Share links. Make one per platform or creator in the Creator Dashboard to see which brings players who stay. Everything else from outside lands under "Other" in your analytics.
One more reason to say the game's name: through Creator Rewards' Audience Expansion, Roblox pays the developer a share of what new or returning Roblox users spend in their first 60 days, if they joined through the game's link or a search for its name (for games with 100 or more daily users).
Step 4: time it
- Home traffic usually peaks on Saturdays: put your updates and events there.
- Horror and Halloween searches rise every September and October, Roblox says.
- An update doesn't lift your game by itself: there's no freshness signal. It helps only through what it does to the signals above, so announce it (Notify Me, update announcements) and bring players to it.
What doesn't work
- Likes and favorites don't push a game on Home: none of the eight signals is a like.
- The "updated" date doesn't boost discovery.
- Clickbait thumbnails stopped paying when Home moved to retention in June 2026: a click that leaves in a minute counts against you, and Roblox says misleading thumbnails can bring low-quality warnings.
Questions
Why does my Roblox game have no players?
Three reasons come up most. The game has only a default thumbnail, so Home doesn't recommend it (since 19 October 2026). It hasn't been opened to players under 16 yet, which takes 250 highly engaged players. Or the players Home sends leave in the first minutes, so Home shows it less.
How do I get my Roblox game on the front page?
The front page is Home, and its Recommended For You row picks games by how the players it sent behave: do they play after seeing the tile, stay past the first minutes, and come back. Get a custom thumbnail that matches the game, then make the first three minutes hold people.
Can I get players without spending Robux?
Yes. Short clips on TikTok, Reels and Shorts, creators who play your game, and your own communities cost time, not Robux. Roblox ads cost money but are the fastest way to get your first real players.
How long does it take for Home to pick up a game?
There's no fixed time. Roblox judges games again every day on a moving window of up to 28 days, so a weak launch isn't final: fix the first minutes and the game gets judged again.
