How to change your Roblox game's name and description
Updated 4 November 2026 · By ClipClip
The short answer
In the Creator Hub (create.roblox.com), open your game, then Publish settings, Game details. Change the Name (up to 50 characters) or the Description (up to 1,000), then click Save.
Where it is
- Go to create.roblox.com, Creations, and click your game.
- In the menu on the left: Publish settings, Game details.
- Edit Name, Promotional text (optional, short, for something temporary; a beta), Description and Genre.
- Click Save. The new name shows on the game's page; the genre can take a few days to reach the charts.
The icon, thumbnails and video sit at the top of the same page.
A name that gets found
- Keep it. Renaming too often lowers the chance players find the game by a name they remember.
- No repeated words. "Obby Madness OBBY OBBY OBBY" can get a game demoted.
- One or two emojis at most, never inside the words.
- No Robux or giveaways. A name that promises money gets less exposure.
- True and original. A name that doesn't match the game, or copies another game's, is shown less on Home and in search.
A description that works
- Say what the game is in the first sentence. "Fight off hordes of zombies with bats, guns and swords" beats "a fun game to play with friends".
- Use the words players would search (sheriff, robbers, jail), once each. Repeating them or adding unrelated games' names can get the game demoted.
- The first ~160 characters matter most: they're likely what Google shows, and what the app shows before the rest opens.
- No tags or hashtags. Roblox says its ranking doesn't use them, and they eat the 1,000 characters.
- Keep it for all ages, with no strong language: game pages can't contain it, even with a Restricted label.
The last three come from Roblox's experimental guidelines, written for select creators. The name, the icon and the thumbnail are what players see first on Home: sizes and rules in Roblox thumbnail and icon sizes.
Questions
How long can a Roblox game name be?
Up to 50 characters, as the Creator Hub's Game details page counts them.
What's the character limit for a Roblox game description?
1,000 characters. The first 160 or so matter most: Roblox says they're what Google likely shows, and what the Roblox app shows before the rest opens.
Does renaming my Roblox game hurt it?
Renaming often does: Roblox says it lowers the chance players find the game by a name they remember. Its ID stays the same, so links to it keep working.
Can I change my Roblox game's name on mobile?
Yes, on the Creator Hub website, create.roblox.com, in a phone's browser: the name and description are on the game's Game details page.
Why won't my game's name or description save?
Check two things: the text follows Roblox's rules (game pages can't contain strong language, for one), and, for a group's game, your role is allowed to edit it.
How often can I change my game's genre?
Once every 3 months, on the same Game details page.
