Game passes vs developer products
Updated 4 November 2026 · By ClipClip
The short answer
A pass is bought once and kept (VIP, a permanent power-up). A developer product can be bought again and again (coins, potions, revives). Both are made in the Creator Hub, under your game's Monetization, once the game is published.
Side by side
| Pass | Developer product | |
|---|---|---|
| Bought | Once per player | As often as they like |
| For | VIP, a restricted area, a permanent item | Currency, potions, revives, boosts |
| Where | Monetization, Passes | Monetization, Developer products |
| Price | In Robux | 1 to 1 billion Robux |
| In scripts | PromptGamePassPurchase, UserOwnsGamePassAsync | PromptProductPurchase, ProcessReceipt |
Make a pass
- Creator Hub, Creations, your game, then Monetization, Passes, Create Pass.
- An image: optional (Roblox shows a default one), .jpg, .png or .bmp, at most 512×512, with everything important inside its circle.
- A name (up to 50 characters) and a description (up to 1,000).
- Create pass, then give it a price in Robux and put it on sale.
In your game, check on each join whether a player owns the pass (UserOwnsGamePassAsync) and grant it from a server script: Roblox doesn't do it for you.
Make a developer product
- Monetization, Developer products, Create developer product.
- An icon (same rules as a pass), a name and a description.
- A price, from 1 to 1,000,000,000 Robux, then save.
Grant it in ProcessReceipt: check the receipt, give the item, then confirm. Don't grant on PromptProductPurchaseFinished, which fires even when no purchase went through.
Sell outside your game
- Listed items. In Monetization, Shop, mark a pass or product Listed: Roblox can then show it on Home, in search and after someone buys Robux. Buyers get it when they join (a developer product through ProcessReceipt).
- The Buy Robux page. A pass's Promotions tab can add it to the bonus pool: players buying an eligible Robux package get it free, then join your game to claim it. On sale, it must cost 50 to 800 Robux, and it needs a thumbnail.
Pricing
- Managed pricing. New games and new items are enrolled by default: Roblox tests prices for passes and developer products and sets regional prices between 30% and 100% of yours. You can opt items out.
- US 18+ players. Robux from their pass and developer product purchases can cash out at a higher rate in eligible games: Roblox DevEx.
Questions
What's the difference between a game pass and a developer product?
A pass is bought once and kept for good, like VIP or a permanent power-up. A developer product can be bought again and again, like coins, potions or a revive.
How do I make a game pass on Roblox?
In the Creator Hub, open your game, then Monetization, Passes, Create Pass: add an image (optional), a name and a description, and create it. Your game has to be published and reachable on Roblox first.
How do I find my game pass ID?
Monetization, Passes: hover the pass, click ⋯, then Copy Asset ID. Developer products work the same way, under Developer products.
Can I make a game pass on mobile?
Yes, on the Creator Hub website, create.roblox.com, in a phone's browser, for a game that's already published.
Can I sell a pass from another game?
No longer: since 30 May 2026, cross-game pass and developer product sales are off. Roblox points games that relied on them to Robux transfers.
